Banana
The banana plant is the largest herbaceous flowering plant.[4] The plants are normally tall and fairly sturdy and are often mistaken for trees, but their main or upright stem is actually a pseudostem that grows 6 to 7.6 metres (20 to 24.9 ft) tall, growing from a corm. Each pseudostem can produce a single bunch of bananas. After fruiting, the pseudostem dies, but offshoots may develop from the base of the plant. Many varieties of bananas are perennial.
Mysore is a tall and vigorous growing to 16 feet. It is green leafed with red midrib. Undersides of leaves have pinkish, waxy coating. The plant produces very thin-skinned short fat “lady finger” sweet fruit. ‘Mysore’ is
wind resistant but should be propped up when carry large heads of fruit.
People preferred the unique acidic blend and attractive colour of the `poovan' banana to others. It is generally cultivated as a perennial crop. Fruit is firm and has typical sour-sweet aroma. Fruits turn to attractive golden yellow on ripening. The skin of the fruit should wear a cosmetic look bright yellow, no black spots.
